Consider When Choosing a Refrigerator For Your Kitchen
In today’s world the most important thing when choosing any major appliance is the energy efficiency. It may sound like an exaggeration, but every little choice we make makes a difference to the environment. Plus the fact that you end up with a lower electricity bill is an added bonus. So you want to be looking for a refrigerator with high energy efficiency. The ‘Energy Star’ logo is a trusted indicator of an energy efficient appliance.
Depending on your budget, there are several models of refrigerators to choose from. The most common of course are the ones with the freezer on top and the refrigeration below, followed by the ones with both the compartments side by side. The latter are usually more expensive since they are also usually of a higher capacity. Recent years have seen the arrival of refrigerators with freezers at the bottom. These kinds are generally considered unsafe if you have little kids in the house.
The amount of food your fridge will be able to store is obviously another very important factor to consider. This usually depends on the number of people in the household. The more people there are, the larger the fridge required, provided you have the space to keep it. So the space available to keep the fridge is also to be kept in mind. But if you’re buying one for say a small kitchenette on the 1st floor, then you obviously don’t need a very big one because it won’t be like the ‘main’ refrigerator in the house. Of course if you have a large house and there is a full-fledged kitchen upstairs, then you might need a bigger fridge.
And of course, there are the looks. The looks may be more important to some and less important to others. The ‘look’ of your fridge will depend on the way your kitchen is made and the overall decor. If you have a recently renovated/built ‘modern’ kitchen, then you would probably prefer a stainless steel finish. For older kitchens however, you can choose from a variety of colors. The most common ones are white, light grey and almond. Other colors are also seeing an increased demand, especially black.
Most people however, don’t pay too much attention to the layout inside the fridge. Adjustable trays, special bottle shelves on the door, separate compartments for meat/eggs etc. are things that are really useful in the long run, so keep those in mind too while making your decision.
Again, since an appliance like this stays for years, take your time and do your research before you decide.
